We all love the benefits of technology and social media, but even with the incredible upsides, many of us suspect there are unintended negative consequences beyond our control. (Un)Qualified

NYT best-selling pastor invites readers to embrace who they really are, in order to become who God has called them to be.Furtick examines the nature of the divine as the great “I AM,” and in turn helps the reader examine his or her own identity.Using Jacob/Israel as a test case, Furtick helps us all to confront our weaknesses. Instead of hiding our shortcomings, Furtick invites us to reveal them and ask God to work through them. This is the paradox of the Christian life: that our weakness makes us strong. That God chooses to work through our imperfection.Pastor Furtick encourages the reader, “embrace who you really are, to become who you are called to be.” While that might seem counterintuitive to some, we have to admit that we can’t pull ourselves up by our own bootstraps. We must realize, as Furtick has through his own challenging journey, that God can’t bless who we pretend to be. He blesses who we really are.Additional InformationFurtick Steven - Hardcover Publisher: Multnomah Publishers Subject: Christian Living Date published: 02/26/2016 Weight: 0.65 lbs isbn13: 9781601424594 isbn: 1601424590 sku: 096211

    1 & 2 Chronicles: Volume 10 (Preachers Commentary)

General editor Lloyd J. Ogilvie brings together a team of skilled and exceptional communicators to blend sound scholarship with life-related illustrations. The design for the Preacher's Commentary gives the reader an overall outline of each book of the Bible. Following the introduction, which reveals the author's approach and salient background on the book, each chapter of the commentary provides the Scripture to be exposited. The New King James Bible has been chosen for the Preacher's Commentary because it combines with integrity the beauty of language, underlying Hebrew and Greek textual basis, and thought-flow of the 1611 King James Version, while replacing obsolete verb forms and other archaisms with their everyday contemporary counterparts for greater readability. Reverence for God is preserved in the capitalization of all pronouns referring to the Father, Son, or Holy Spirit. Readers who are more comfortable with another translation can readily find the parallel passage by means of the chapter and verse reference at the end of each passage being exposited. The paragraphs of exposition combine fresh insights to the Scripture, application, rich illustrative material, and innovative ways of utilizing the vibrant truth for his or her own life and for the challenge of communicating it with vigor and vitality.Additional InformationAllen Leslie - Paperback Publisher: Nelson/Nelson Books Subject: Biblical Studies Date published: 07/15/2004 Weight: 1.25 lbs isbn13: 9780785247838 isbn: 0785247831 sku: 044937

  • 1 & 2 Corinthians: Journible (The 17:18 Series)

    1 & 2 Corinthians: Journible (The 17:18 Series)

Why the 17:18 series? In Deuteronomy 17, Moses is leaving final instructions concerning the future of Israel. As a prophet of God, Moses foretells of when Israel will place a king over the nation (v. 14). In verse 18, the king is commanded to not simply acquire a copy of the law (the entire book of Deuteronomy) from the “scroll publishing house,” but to hand write his own copy of the law. Thirty-four hundred years later, educators are “discovering” that students that physically write out their notes by hand have a much greater retention rate than simply hearing or visually reading the information. Apparently, God knew this to be true of the kings of Israel also. From such understanding came the conception of this series of books. How to Use These BooksEach book is organized so that you can write out your very own copy of Scripture. You will be writing the Bible text only on the right hand page of the book. This should make for easier writing and also allows ample space on the left page to write your own notes and comments. From time to time a question or word will be lightly printed on the left page; these questions are to aid in further study, but should not interfere with your own notes and comments.Additional InformationWynalda Robert - Hardcover Publisher: Reformation Heritage Books Subject: Christian Living Date published: 11/30/2011 Weight: 1.10 lbs isbn13: 9781601781635 isbn: 1601781636 sku: 129909

  • 1 & 2 Peter (Crossway Classic Commentaries)

    1 & 2 Peter (Crossway Classic Commentaries)

Robert Leighton explores Peter's first letter to the suffering believers while Griffith Thomas looks at the second epistle. A Crossway Classic Commentary. Excerpt Original works by godly writers, tailored for the understanding of today's reader For hundreds of years Christendom has been blessed with Bible commentaries written by great men of God who were highly respected for their godly walk and their insight into spiritual truth. The Crossway Classic Commentary Series, carefully adapted for maximum understanding and usefulness, presents the very best work on individual Bible books for today's believers. Addressed to persecuted believers, Peter's first letter encourages them with the knowledge that it is possible to live victoriously in the midst of hostility--just as Christ, who suffered unjustly, did. He exhorts them to live a holy life that they might be a witness and evangelize the world through their faithfulness. In his second epistle, Peter warns against the more subtle dangers from within the church--false teachers and errant doctrine. He also emphasizes the importance of scriptural knowledge, for only in understanding true doctrine will heresies be known and immoral behavior be exposed. Robert Leighton and Griffith Thomas's exploration of 1 and 2 Peter's key passages offers resounding wisdom that will both instruct and encourage all Christians.Additional InformationLeighton Robert - Paperback Publisher: Crossway Books Subject: Biblical Studies Date published: 04/01/1999 Weight: 0.75 lbs isbn13: 9781581340648 isbn: 1581340648 sku: 024429

Part of the St. Andrew’s Expositional Commentary series.  Excerpt Part of the St. Andrew’s Expositional Commentary series, this volume is a compilation of R. C. Sproul’s sermons on 1–2 Peter.Peter wrote two letters to encourage churches to stand firm under persecution. The apostle Peter himself was familiar with persecution, as he probably wrote the letters from Rome, awaiting his death. From his own suffering Peter joins in fellowship with “elect exiles of the dispersion” by urging them to “rejoice, though now for a little while . . . you have been grieved by various trials.” His inspired challenges to live a life worthy of the gospel hold great relevance for us today. Pastor and scholar R. C. Sproul has preached through Peter’s letters and has now compiled these sermons into one volume. This St. Andrew’s Expositional Commentary will enable readers to glean from Sproul’s wisdom and perspective on 1–2 Peter. The St. Andrew’s Expositional Commentary series is the result of years of careful preparation and Bible-centered preaching. Delivered from a pastor’s heart for his congregation, readers will find this volume readable, applicable, appropriately paced, and thoroughly biblical. Here is an opportunity to sit at the feet of an eminent scholar and teacher, encountering the Word of God. Volumes on John, Acts, and Romans have already appeared. Additional InformationSproul R C - Hardcover Publisher: Crossway Books Subject: Biblical Studies Date published: 03/08/2011 Weight: 1.35 lbs isbn13: 9781433522895 isbn: 1433522896 sku: 049831

  • 1 & 2 Peter And Jude (Preaching The Word)

1 & 2 Peter And Jude (Preaching The Word)

A stirring Preaching the Word commentary that explores 1 & 2 Peter and Jude and reminds believers that there is no cause for despair as long as your identity and foundation are in Christ. An ideal resource for pastors and teachers, as well as for personal study. Excerpt Neither Peter nor Jude minced words about the realities that would confront every Christian and that were confronting the church at large—suffering and persecution, contradictory views of the gospel, constant challenges to the faith at the hands of false teachers. Yet even in the face of these harsh realities, both biblical writers unswervingly declared that there is no cause for despair as long as one’s foundation and identity are in Christ. With the truths of 1-2 Peter and Jude echoing across the ages, commentator David Helm beckons us to listen in his stirring exposition. Yet it is not enough to listen, he says. Peter’s and Jude’s words must compel us to do just what the early Christians did: hold fast to their identity in Christ, ground themselves in the truth, live lives worthy of their calling, and vigorously contend for the faith. As Helm explores these three epistles in depth, he delivers clarifying messages for all God’s people: Messages that will assist you in understanding, applying, and dynamically communicating the biblical text. Messages that can quicken every believer’s mind for action. Messages that should strengthen us all as we contend for the faith in these challenging times.“This commentary/collection of sermons has my warm endorsement. I read them, in my daily devotions, over the period of a month and profited greatly. The message of these books is often neglected, and I pray that this volume will go a long way to redress this deficiency.” Canon John C. Chapman, former director, Department of Evangelism, Diocese of Sydney“David Helm has an engaging style, all his own. Best of all, he engages with the text of Scripture, with life as it really is, and with the hearts and minds of the lively congregations who first heard and benefited from much of this material.” Dick Lucas, Trustee, The Proclamation Trust“David Helm exercises a vibrant preaching ministry in the city of Chicago. This book of Bible expositions displays his strengths as a preacher and serves as a model for other Bible teachers. It is vigorous in its defense of spiritual truth, clear in its explanation of biblical words and their contextual meaning, vivid in its use of language and illustrations, well-structured in its exposition of particular Bible passages, and fresh in its practical application of biblical truth to daily Christian life. It is the kind of commentary, in other words, on which preachers quickly learn to rely.” Philip Graham Ryken, Senior Minister, Tenth Presbyterian Church, PhiladelphiaRecommendations for the Series“The single best resource for faithful biblical exposition available today. A great boon for genuine reformation!” Timothy George Dean, Samford University, Beeson Divinity School“For this outstanding series of expository commentaries, Kent Hughes has assembled a team of unusually gifted scholar-preachers. The series will be widely used and much sought after.” Eric J. Alexander Retired Senior Minister, St. George’s-Tron Parish Church, Glasgow, Scotland“The Preaching the Word commentary series is one of my favorites. The focus upon explaining a text with preaching it as the goal makes the series resonate with the priorities of the pulpit. No academic aloofness here, but down-to-earth, preacher-to-preacher meat for God’s people.” Bryan Chapell President, Covenant Theological Seminary“I’m delighted to endorse the philosophy behind the series edited by my friend Kent Hughes. Here sounds out the voice not of the scholar in the study but of the scholar in the pulpit. The authors are all able teachers who regularly expound God’s living Word to his people. May this rich material give us ‘patterns of preaching’ that will not only feed the flock, but, by God’s grace, change the church.” R. C. Lucas Retired Rector, St. Helen’s Church, Bishopsgate, London, EnglandAbout the Series1 & 2 Peter and Jude is part of a Bible commentary series entitled Preaching the Word. The series is noted for its unqualified commitment to biblical authority, clear exposition of Scripture, readability, and practical application. R. Kent Hughes is the general editor for the series, which will eventually encompass every book of the Bible. It is an ideal resource for pastors and teachers, as well as for personal Bible study.Additional InformationHelm David - Hardcover Publisher: Crossway Books Subject: Biblical Studies Date published: 03/15/2008 Weight: 1.52 lbs isbn13: 9781581349603 isbn: 1581349602 sku: 649603
